Biography

Landscape painter Ginger Whellock paints the western landscape with great sympathy. In the early 1970s', Ginger moved from her home in the big city to a remote cattle ranch in Montana. She found this move presented as challenging a life style adjustment as anyone can imagine. Out in the west, faced with miles of open country, surrounded by mountains, a huge sky and miles from civilization, she became enchanted with the western life style and landscape. Today, she enchants us with her sun drenched, well designed, tranquil western landscape paintings. Though known for her western landscape paintings, this award winning artist also excels in painting an extensive variety of worldwide locations. In her body of work are paintings of England, France, and Canada, the US east coast from Maryland to Florida, California and the mid-west as well as all of the western states. Ginger suggests that painting water creates her biggest challenge and her greatest sense of satisfaction. Looking at the number of successful paintings of water she has produced, one concludes that she rises to the challenge. Our collective response to Ginger's paintings is a sense of peace, tranquility, hope and wonder. She has the unique ability to grab the viewers' attention by triggering our own memories of such magical places and then visually creating a desire in us to journey on into the painting. "My work is realistic though not romantic, colorful, meditative and relaxing. My aim is to bring you, the viewer, into the painting with me to share the moment, breathe in the smell of the land, feel the breeze on your face and the sun on your shoulders and imagine with me what fascinating vistas will greet us just around the corner." Ginger Whellock currently works exclusively in oil, though she is accomplished in pastel, watercolor, graphite and pen and ink. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and PaintAmerica. She is a Juried Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America, Women Artists of the West and the Pastel Society of America. Her paintings have been selected for articles and editorials in Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Wildlife Art, International Artist and 2007 Best of American Pastel Artists and Artisans. Ginger has been invited to participated in the Salon International, Oil Painters of America Western Regional Show, American Impressionist Society National Show, Colorado Governor's Show, Mt Oyster Club Art Show, Richard Schmid Fine Art Auction, Representing the West Exhibit, South Eastern Wildlife Exhibition, Art for the Sangres, PaintAmerica, Paint the Parks and Arts for the Parks among others. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and the PaintAmerica Society. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Pastel Society of America and Women Artists of the West. Ginger volunteers her teaching studio as a gathering place for artists where she freely critiques, demonstrates and answers questions. She maintains her own web site, writes a blog and a monthly email Newsletter. Her studio is located in Castle Pines Village, Colorado.
